Ben Barnes Talks About his Audition for the Role of Edward Cullen

Thousands of actors auditioned for the role of 'Edward Cullen'. Catherine Hardwick (Director of "Twilight") revealed Ben Barnes was one of the finalist to snatch the role. In an interview, he reveals how his audition was, there he mentions Rob.

"Speaking of playing vampires, "Twilight" director Catherine Hardwicke says you were one of the final four actors to be considered for the role of Edward Cullen. We all know that Robert Pattinson ended up getting the role, but what were your "Twilight" auditions like?

There were quite a few auditions. I was the first person they kind of approached about it. It was all right. I very quickly read the first ["Twilight"] book. I really enjoyed it. I think Kristen Stewart is great. I think she’s a really good actress. And I really like Catherine Hardwicke.

But then there were two things: First off, they didn’t want to mix "Narnia" and "Twilight." I think it’s dangerous to mix characters from franchises while you’re doing one. So she definitely didn’t want Prince Caspian being Edward Cullen. It doesn’t make sense. And secondly, I’d still be shooting at age 30, playing 17, and nobody wants to see that. That would be kind of sad.

And course you wouldn’t want the kind of craziness with fans and paparazzi that Robert Pattinson has to deal with in his life.

EW's Highlights of Rob and Kristen's Eclipse DVD Commentary

If you have seen the 'Eclipse' DVD with Robert and Kristen's commentary, you will know how entertaining it is.
These two have some interesting comments about Bella, Edward, and Jacob's relationship and they express it between laughs and jokes.
Entertainment Weekly gave some of the highlights of what these two talked about.

"BATTLE OF THE SEXES, PART 1: An angry Bella leaves Edward at school to catch up with Jacob

Pattinson: I just don’t get that. I don’t get your decision-making process to leave here. I didn’t even understand it at the time. I was just like, “I gotta break up with you immediately.” [He's] like, “Please, please don’t go. Don’t leave me, don’t leave me, please.” And [she's] like, “Shut up. I’m gonna go with this guy who wants to cheat, who wants to sleep with me” or whatever.

Stewart: Whoa.

Pattinson: I just said the wrong word. “Who wants to kiss me, who wants to hold my hand.” [Laughs]

Stewart: Shut up… I mean, that’s the whole first argument that they had in the beginning is she’s allowed to have other relationships.

Pattinson: Why? No, she’s not allowed to have other relationships.

Stewart: And she knows him a way that you don’t know him…. It’s cool. It’s sweet that he’s being–

Pattinson: Geez, if I ever saw my girlfriend go around to this bunch of guys’ house with all their little bellies out [Both laugh]… and their fake-tanned nipples and their iron-on tattoos.

Stewart: Edward is just a little bit more mature than you.

Stewart: Yep.

Pattinson: Nah.

Stewart: He can handle it. He’s a little bit more secure.

Pattinson: Let me just ask you something… Did the weather affect shooting today? [Laughs]

Stewart: Let’s look at the wig. We can just judge by that..."

RPattz in UK 'AnOther Man' Magazine - October Edition.

Rob will be on the new magazine called 'AnOther Man'. From the very little information they reveal, the interview seems like is going to be interesting.

Here is an excerpt from the Robert Pattinson feature written by Dave Calhoun.


Was Pattinson aware of the loyalty of fans of the Twilight books? It looks like the sort of obsessive fandom that can turn into anger and even hatred when an adaptation isn’t to their liking. Did he know what he was letting himself in for? “It’s strange because even though the figures show that the books were successful and sold millions of copies, you couldn’t even buy them in London. I tried a couple of bookshops and they weren’t available. Hardly anyone I knew had read them apart from one girl, a friend of my sister. I had no idea at all. I’d seen Kristen Stewart in Into the Wild and some of the director Catherine Hardwicke’s other films, and that’s all I thought it was, something really small.”


His manner is very laid back. He doesn’t sound thrusting or ambitious, more like he’s just going with the flow and enjoying things. Is he going to harness his newfound fame and box-office appeal to approach the kind of filmmakers he wants to work with in the future? He’s not so sure. “Annoyingly, there are so few parts I feel I can add anything to, or that I want to do.” But he knows what he doesn’t need. “I don’t want to be an actor for the sake of it.  I've read in many interviews that Rob didn't know how big "Twilight" really was before he took on the role of "Edward Cullen"...he has revealed his expectations were that the film was another indy movie, so my question has always been; If Rob would have know how big and phenomenal this series really was, would he have taken the role of "Edward Cullen"? I have a feeling he wouldn't have...he just said he is not an attention seeker, and nothing brings more attention to the screen (or magazines) than "Edward Cullen". But then again, this role did lead him to something he probably does want and would have never gotten if he wouldn't have been "Edward Cullen"...what that might be? I'll say that once Rob reveals all his little secrets.

In the mean time, I hope someone scans this magazine once it hits the stands, I can't wait to read the interview.

Rob and Kristen Get a $10 million Raise - (Not too shaby)

"Yesterday we talked about the Highest Paid Actors in Hollywood who enjoy the finer things in life like lavish trips to San Tropez, endless shopping at Barney's, and world-class fine dining.  We mentioned Harrison Ford, Will Smith, Christian Bale, and Shia LaBeouf but we did not mention Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.  In 2008, the newbies did not break the bank inTwilight even though the movie made over $191 million.  But good things came to them when they signed on to The Twilight Saga: New Moon, and by good things we mean loads and loads of mulla.  Can you guess what Rob and Kristen made for New Moon?

For young actors, their $2 million Twilight paycheck was very appropriate.  Twilight took $35.7 million dollar to make and grossed close to $200 million in the box office, leaving Rob and Kristen ready for a major raise.  According to the reputable Chicago Sun-Times, both Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were paid $12 million dollars each to reprise their role for New Moon.  Plus the actors would be given 9% of the box office take which is very normal in Hollywood.

While promoting Twilight last fall Rob opened up about picking the right film and taking risks regardless of the paycheck.  "The only way to [do] that is to take risks And you need to be able to trust people.  So you get a company together with people you know are good and you know work hard and you can make good stuff.  That’s kind of what I want to do.”  But when you find a movie that fits your style, has a great company behind it, and a heavily padded paycheck, you hit the jackpot just like Rob..." read rest of article here

Pattinson Trapped by the Paps

Ever since the cast of Twilight started filming 'Eclipse' there had been very few photos of RPattz. There was a rumor going around stating that director of the film David Slade was keeping their stars on "lockdown" because they partied too much after done with filming causing the following day of them looking like crap, but that rumor was rapidly debunked by Gossip Cop.


Now Gossip Cop surfaced the real reason of why we haven't seen so much of the money-making star.

"Since Gossip Cop has become the destination for accurate “Twilight” stories, a production source came directly to us with details of the stars’ drama.



There’s a reason you haven’t seen much of Robert Pattinson, other than on the set: “Twilight” filmmakers are trying to protect the handsome young star from the prying lenses of the paparazzi. “Every time anyone from the cast emerges from the hotel they’re swarmed by paparazzi,” says the inside source.


And Pattinson is the prime target.


“He’s a prisoner of the paparazzi,” the source tells Gossip Cop. “It’s a nightmare,” adds the source, explaining that Pattinson almost never leaves the hotel except to go to the set. And when he does, the crew has to go great lengths to find ways to transport him from one location to another undetected. Because of the paparazzi, the star has been unable to interact with his many fans.

Really, I'm not surprised at all, In fact, I had a really strong feeling that paparazzi were the real reason of why he just dissapeared from the eyes of everyone who is following him. They did a great job on trapping him inside four walls for the next few months, they did a great job on making it impossible to do something so simple as to go outside just to take a fresh air, they did a great freaking job on making Rob's life a nightmare when in reality it should be the best time of his life.
If the mission of the paparazzi in this world to be the worst scum ever existed, well they did a great job on achieving that goal.

"Cullens - The Beginning" Movie or not?

I had a lot free time today to think about many things. Some were mundane, others were a little stressful since my life lately has been filled with stress...but being the responsible woman that I am, I didn't want to deal with the stress and just concentrated on mundane stuff...(yes, very, very responsible of me).

One of the things that came to mind were the Cullens. Why? Because they are awesome and I love'em all! (yes, including Rosalie). The Twilight Saga are pretty much my escape medicine from stuff that might send me over the edge, so I read the books a lot, and since I read today the filming dates of 'Eclipse' were released, I started thinking about films in general...Films that were Twilight related anyway.

Its no news that 'Breaking Dawn' is going to be made a film, but for some reason the Saga doesn't stop there. Stephenie Meyer had started writing Midnight Sun - Edward's Point of View of Twilight..but because of bad decisions of irresponsible people, Mrs. Meyer put a halt to that project indefinitely. However, she gave a tiny taste of her writing by releasing on her website the first twelve chapters of the unfinished novel. Based on those chapters, I'm thinking is going to be great! (Hopefully she decides to lift the punishment she placed upon her innocent fans and finish that book!) Anyone who loves Edward will fall in love with that new vision of Twilight...(and we all know how many Team Edward are out there). So yes, the novel will be loved, but what if it was made a movie? Will that be loved as well? (Thinking the book will be finished).

I pondered on that question a lot, and I concluded with a 'no'. There's just no mystery there anymore. If Midnight Sun is ever made a film, it will be with the resolution of remaking Twilight, and call me crazy, I just don't think many people will be happy about that. Maybe some fans would get euphoric about the idea of Twilight being remade, no matter how repetitive it might be, but there aren't that many out there with those same sentiments to make the movie a complete success. Or maybe there is...I really couldn't say for a fact, it's an assumption of mine, I'll take a worldwide poll later to find out the real number...In the mean time, lets get to my point...

What I'm trying to get at, is that I was thinking of a WHOLE NEW movie. Its still based on the Saga, but Stephenie Meyer didn't write it as a whole novel, she told it in pieces. I'm talking about on HOW the Cullens came to be.

Each Cullen member has a interesting story on how they became a vampire and eventually came together as a family (not coven). If you've read the books, than you know those stories, and if you're like me, you've found them pretty darn interesting as well.

Just think about Carlisle and his beginning...It took place in the 1600s..In his time, there were hunters who persecuted witches, werewolves, vampires..(that should be interesting to see in film). Think about how he was created and how he adopted his new way of existence. Think about how he ended in Italy with the VOLTURI! (I would love to see more of them).

What about Edward and his story. We already saw a tiny bit how he was created in the film of Twilight. But how cool it would be to see him in his rebellious years when he was a REAL vamp..The dark predator, the indestructible merciless god who gave HIS type of punishment to those who had a dark soul. How about to see how he was BEFORE he went to forks where his existence will forever be changed?

How amazing will it be too see ALL of the Cullens stories connecting in one big film; Rosalie's, Emmett's, Jasper's, Esme's, and precious little Alice! Can you just imagine? This will actually be a completely DIFFERENT VAMPIRE movie!! And you know what the best part of this film will be? (not to be mean) but there will be no Bella!

Now, now, don't get me wrong, I love book Bella, is just movie Bella I kind of have a problem with, but that's besides the point. What I'm saying is that it would be great to create a completely vampire movie solely on the Cullens.

Stephenie Meyer broke a lot of vampire rules, and some people don't seem to understand that. I like HER vision of vampires. See, in her vision, the vampires are on TOP of the food chain. The only who can destroy them are their own species or werewolves. Not a slayer, not garlic, not sun, not cross, NONE of that silly stuff...Just hardcore marble skin vamps, and behemoth angry dogs can ever destroy to pieces such a bloodcurdling creature. Oh, and I can't forget the fact that she got rid off the FANGS! Love it! She created razor sharp venomous teeth..Now THATS a vampire I love! You know why? Because every time I see fangs, it made me laugh or I rolled my eyes...I just thought it was too silly, as if trying really hard to scare me...yeah, sorry, it didn't work for me.

So seeing Stephenie's vision of vampires will be amazing on film. Of course it will be great if the production delivers the story the way it should be. They will have to forget that Stephenie's novels were targeted to teenagers. For some reason thinking that teenagers will see the film makes them hold back on how much darkness should be unleashed, they don't want to send out the wrong message to the poor little darlings. Oh give me a break! Some people have to give more credit to teenagers..Most of them are more intelligent than a ton of "adults" that I know. But anyway, back to the movie idea.

While I was thinking of all this through, I came to stumble with one tiny problem...(just in case Summit reads this and says..."wow, great idea...lets' get to work on it")...Will the main actors work on a fifth Twilight movie? And when I say "main" I'm really thinking of ONE in particular....You can guess who, right?

Oh RPattz...such a desirable talented man with a very difficult life when it comes to the spot light, will HE come back to the fifth movie? I would think yes if they give him a very well written script. BUT, this is linked to Twilight, and well, as much as he might love the story, (As a lot of us do) I just don't think he likes what Twilight brings out of certain people. Twilight is not only linked to a great characters, but also to chaos. Will he want to get contracted to THAT again? Hm, yes, IF by that time he has better handle on his fame, if not, than no..he will run so fast that we'll only see his beanie hat flying in the air.

But lets say that everything goes great..Summit likes the idea, and all the main actors of the Cullens agree to come back. Would you like "Cullens - The Beginning" ...(or maybe just "Cullens")...to be made?......Ok, fine!....Forget about the title .... just think about the story ... would it be great to see it on the big screen? ....Or do you think I should stop thinking about silly things and concentrate on my stress and fix my real problems? Well, you let me know...
